For thousands of years in India, the sacred science and technology of Kundalini Yoga was veiled in heavy secrecy. Knowledge was shared verbally from master to chosen disciple.
Once in the United States, Yogi Bhajan, the founder of Kundalini Yoga and 3HO Yoga Centers, broke with this long-held tradition of silence and began to share his knowledge of the practice to people in the West. In the turbulent, drug culture of the 60’s, Bhajan first reached out to the youth of America who he understood to be seeking an “altered state of consciousness” as a result of a generational spiritual malaise. Kundalini filled a spiritual void and provided the added advantage of physical well-being and heightened mental awareness. Soon 3HO Kundalini Teaching Centers sprang up across the United States and then throughout the world. Kundalini Yoga as we know it today was now here to stay.
