Sat Nam! This is the way Sikhs greet each other. While the words may translate slightly depending on use, in essence it is a soul-to-soul awareness - a bowing to the truth and the acknowledgement of the wisdom within one another.

When you enter The Blessings Center, Gurutej will emerge wearing one of her many white or light colored garments. Oh, and yes, there is no missing the matching turban concealing the almost floor length hair. When asked if the turban embodies something spiritual, Gurutej offers the history of her turban.

“I studied under the guidance of Yogi Bhajan. It was he who decided the Americans would adopt the attire of the Indian Sikh’s, but in white. She also added; white adds 18 inches to your magnetic field. When wearing white, you stand out.”

She continues, “We discovered that in the Indian version of the Sikh sect, only the men wear turbans. In the midst of the 60’s woman’s movement, this seemed ridiculous, so we decided to design our own. Back then, they were really outrageous. Sometimes, they were over a foot tall!”

sikhs

The word Sikh means disciple. Sikhism, the youngest of the world religions, is barely five hundred years old, yet today it is the 5th largest of all practiced religions with 23 million practitioners, worldwide.  Sikhs believe that there is only one God, but that God has infinite qualities and names; and that God is the same for all religions. God is the Creator and Sustainer – All that you see around you is God’s creation. God is everywhere, and in everything: God has and will exist forever. God is aligned with no religion, and respects all religions. God and many paths, and the Name of God is Truth, or "Sat Nam". If you come to know Gurutej, you will come to know, Sat Nam!
